Just beyond Beachy Head on the next cliff is the Belle Tout Lighthouse which was built in 1834 well away from the cliff edge. Subsequent erosion and cliff falls placed it in danger of toppling over the edge, so in 1999 it was moved about 40 feet back to its present position. No longer used for its original purpose, it's now a private residence.
